Thiruvananthapuram: The state continues to face the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall, with the India Meteorological Department issuing an updated weather alert. The red alert declared earlier for four districts will remain in effect on Monday, with Kasaragod also being added to the list.

A red alert is in place for five northern districts on Monday, namely Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod, where extremely heavy rainfall is forecast. Rainfall exceeding 204.4 mm within 24 hours is expected in these areas.

Meanwhile, an orange alert has been issued for Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Palakkad districts.

Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha and Kottayam districts are under a yellow alert, and there are no weather warnings for Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram.

On Tuesday, an orange alert will be in effect for Kannur and Kasaragod districts, while Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts will have a yellow alert.

The hilly regions experiencing heavy rainfall remain at risk of landslides, mudslides and flash floods. Authorities have advised avoiding visits to waterfalls, reservoirs and hill stations until the weather alerts are lifted.
