A cyclonic circulation over coastal West Bengal and Bangladesh is expected to intensify into a low-pressure area over coastal West Bengal and the northwest Bay of Bengal within the next 24 hours. Another cyclonic circulation over the southeast Bay of Bengal is also likely to influence rainfall patterns.

The IMD has predicted light to moderate rainfall in Kerala from August 7 to August 11, 2026, with isolated heavy rainfall possible on August 7 and 8.

Kerala school holiday update

Educational institutions in Kozhikode, Kasaragod, Kasaragod, Thrissur, Kottayam and Kannur districts will remain closed on Saturday due to continuous heavy rainfall and waterlogging in several areas.

The Kozhikode district administration announced that the holiday will apply to schools, Anganwadis, Madrasas and tuition centres, except professional colleges. The closure will not affect previously scheduled examinations and online classes.

The decision was taken as rain continues to affect hilly and coastal regions of Kozhikode. Authorities have advised students and parents to rely only on official updates from district administrations and educational institutions.

Kasaragod district has also announced a holiday for educational institutions due to the prevailing weather conditions. In Wayanad, holidays have been declared for religious institutions and tuition centres, while further updates are awaited.

Due to heavy rainfall, the Wayanad District Collector has declared a holiday for educational institutions in the district on August 8, 2026. The holiday will apply to all educational institutions except residential schools and colleges.

Due to continuous rainfall, the Thrissur district administration has declared a holiday for all educational institutions in the district on August 8, 2026. The closure applies to all institutions as a precautionary measure amid the prevailing weather conditions.

Students and parents have been advised to rely only on official updates from district authorities and schools and avoid spreading unverified information.

Authorities have urged residents in low-lying and landslide-prone areas to remain cautious. Fishermen and people living near coastal regions have also been advised to follow weather warnings due to strong winds and rough sea conditions along the Kerala-Lakshadweep coast.
