IMD has warned of strong winds up to 50 kmph in Kerala on August 7 and 8. A developing low-pressure area over Bay of Bengal may bring rainfall across the state.

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is likely to experience unsettled weather conditions over the next few days, with the India Meteorological Department warning of strong winds and rainfall due to developing weather systems over the Bay of Bengal.
According to the IMD, a cyclonic circulation currently lies over coastal West Bengal and Bangladesh. The system is expected to intensify into a low-pressure area over coastal West Bengal and the northwest Bay of Bengal within the next 24 hours.

Another cyclonic circulation is also present over the southeast Bay of Bengal, which may influence rainfall patterns.
Strong winds of up to 50 kmph expected in Kerala
The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) shared the IMD warning that isolated areas in Kerala may witness strong winds on August 7 and 8.
Wind speeds are expected to reach:
- 40-50 kmph in isolated places
- Gusts may occasionally reach up to 60 kmph along coastal areas
The IMD has also warned of rough sea conditions along the Kerala-Lakshadweep coast during this period.
Rainfall forecast for Kerala
The weather department has predicted light to moderate rainfall across Kerala from August 7 to August 11, 2026.
Isolated heavy rainfall is also possible in some areas on August 7 and 8 due to the influence of the developing low-pressure system.
Coastal areas advised to remain cautious
With strong winds and rough seas expected, fishermen and people living near coastal areas have been advised to remain alert and follow local weather updates.
Authorities have urged residents to take precautions during periods of heavy rain and strong winds, especially in vulnerable areas.
The developing low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal is expected to increase rainfall activity in parts of eastern and southern India.
The IMD continues to monitor the movement and intensity of the system and may issue further updates depending on changes in weather conditions.
