Kochi: The online taxi strike launched in Kerala over a series of demands has been partially withdrawn. The Joint Action Committee of drivers said services would resume on platforms such as Kerala Savari and Rapido, which have agreed to consider their key demands. However, drivers will continue their complete boycott of Uber and Ola, alleging that the companies have refused to address their concerns.

The protesters urged the government to convene a meeting with platform managements and trade unions to resolve the dispute. TC Sanjith, state general secretary of the Gig Workers Union (AITUC), said the government should enact comprehensive legislation to provide a permanent solution to the issues faced by gig workers.

The striking drivers also accused Uber of attempting to create divisions among workers by spreading misinformation. The All Kerala Online Drivers Union Alliance alleged that the company had been sending WhatsApp messages to drivers falsely claiming that the strike had been completely withdrawn, thereby creating confusion.

The strike was launched with 11 demands, including a reduction in the commission charged by app-based taxi companies, fare revisions in line with rising fuel prices, a ban on bike taxis, stronger job security, an end to arbitrary blocking of drivers without prior notice, withdrawal of fare cuts despite increasing fuel costs, and the implementation of a uniform fare structure. Drivers also demanded safeguards against sudden account suspensions and other measures to protect their livelihoods.
