Abu Dhabi: The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), an affiliate of Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Transport, has announced the expansion of its robotaxi services to new areas across the emirate, reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s push towards smart, autonomous and sustainable transport.

The announcement was made on the sidelines of the seventh Unmanned Systems Exhibition (UMEX) and the Simulation and Training Exhibition (SimTEX), which focus on autonomous systems and smart mobility technologies. The move aligns with Abu Dhabi’s vision for next-generation transport solutions, aimed at improving network efficiency, reducing carbon emissions and enhancing quality of life.

Building on the service’s success since its launch in 2021 across Yas, Al Saadiyat, Al Reem and Al Maryah Islands, as well as Zayed International Airport, ITC is now expanding operations into Khalifa City, Masdar City and Rabdan. New routes will also connect Abu Dhabi Corniche with Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, offering residents and visitors wider access to autonomous transport services.

The service is operated commercially by WeRide and Uber, in collaboration with local operator Tawasul Transport, in line with approved regulatory permits.

ITC said the next phase will include an expansion of the autonomous vehicle fleet to meet rising demand and support rapid service growth, enhancing operational readiness and performance efficiency. Since its launch, the service has recorded nearly 150 per cent growth in trips in 2025, driven by earlier expansions and increasing public confidence in autonomous technology. The vehicles have also achieved a 99.9 per cent safety rate.

Working closely with the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council and development partners, ITC continues to strengthen the infrastructure supporting autonomous driving. This includes upgrading monitoring and control systems, enhancing next-generation connectivity and ensuring a safe and reliable operating environment.
