Thrissur: The discussion held in Thrissur Corporation on the master plan for developing the city ended up in clashes on Friday. Following this, the ruling and opposition councillors thrashed each other.

The opposition members from Congress and BJP entered the chamber of Mayor MK Varghese and created a ruckus. Reportedly, the mayor fled from the spot. The dramatic scenes happened in the special council meeting convened on the basis of recommendation from 23 councillors.

Earlier too, the Corporation has witnessed similar incidents over the master plan. The opposition has been raising a demand that the LDF-led administration must drop the master plan approved by the government in February. They alleged that the administration approved the plan through illegal means.

Even the council was not aware about the shoddy ways by which things were written in the plan and CPM is answerable for the sabotage, alleged DCC president MP Vincent. Similarly, the opposition leader Rajan J Pallan has pinpointed that the master plan formulated by government and CPM through power grab cannot be entertained.

However, refuting the allegations Mayor MK Varghese said that opposition is trying to spoil the future of Thrissur by obstructing the implementation of the master plan. He claimed that the plan in its initial phase was devised by the same people and now they want to drop the same. He also informed that the administration is ready to address the issues and concerns.
