Thiruvananthapuram: The 'ban' on using digital licences from the DigiLocker and mParivahan apps at Kerala Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) offices has been lifted. Now, digital copies of licences can be presented alongside applications for services such as renewals, eliminating the need to provide a physical copy.
The issue arose after the MVD, despite moving to digital licences, continued to require a physical copy of the old card-type licence for certain services. This inconsistency was reported by Mathrubhumi, leading to intervention by Transport Commissioner Nagaraju Chakilam.

Chakkilam said that when licences were made digital, the requirement for the original card should have been changed as well. The Commissioner added that going forward, a digital copy will be sufficient for all applications, streamlining the process for vehicle licence holders.
