Thiruvananthapuram: As Lok Sabha Elections are around the corner,state government is all set to introduce ‘K-Rice’ as an alternative to centre’s Bharat Rice. The newly introduced brand ,named ‘Sabari K-Rice’, will be distributed under the regulation of Supplyco. The preparations regarding this has been completed and the cabinet meeting scheduled to be held on Wednesday is expected to take a decision regarding this. If the cabinet approves the decision, the inauguration of the distribution will take place soon.

For this purpose, supplyco would bring rice from Telengana to be distributed along with the government stock. Ration card holders will receive 5 kg rice per month. As per the Supplyco directive, the costs of Jaya rice and Matta rice stands at Rs 29/kg and Rs 30/kg respectively. The government is also considering the possibility of selling K-Rice at a lower rate than this.

Gunny bags have been designed and Supplyco is all set for the distribution of K Rice. Bharat Rice has the picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on its cover whereas K-Rice does not display the picture of Chief Minister . The distribution will take place via Supplyco chains and ration shops all over Kerala.
