Kochi: The Kerala High Court has stated that temples are places for worship, not for film shooting. This declaration was made during a hearing of a petition contesting the permission for filming at the Tripunithura Sree Poornathrayeesa temple.
The case was reviewed by a division bench consisting of Justice Anil K. Narendran and Justice P.G. Ajithkumar. The petition was filed by Dilip Menon and Ganga Vijayan, residents of Tripunithura, opposing filming in temples under the Cochin Devaswom Board. The court sought explanations from both the government and the Devaswom Board on the matter.

The issue gained attention after the shooting of the movie "Vishesham," which took place at the Tripunithura temple and included non-Hindu crew members.
The petition also highlighted concerns about inappropriate behaviour, noting that mahouts have been seen drinking during festival seasons and that some visitors enter the temple wearing sandals. Advocate T. Sanjay represented the petitioners in court.
