Malappuram: As four weeks passed after the Northeast monsoon began, Kerala is moving towards extreme heat every day. The heat is similar to that of the intense summer season in many places. In the past few days, all districts except Idukki recorded temperatures above 30°C. In Kannur and Kasaragod, the temperatures exceeded 37°C.

In many places, there has been only one or two days of heavy rain. The state has not experienced continuous rainfall. However, there has been no significant deficit in the total rainfall, thanks to isolated heavy showers. Widespread regular rainfall would be more beneficial. According to the India Meteorological Department, light rainfall is expected across Kerala by Thursday.

Weather experts state that the decrease in rainfall since the start of the northeast monsoon, which brings the Thulavarsham rains, is due to the cyclonic disturbances formed over the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, which have impacted the monsoon winds.
