Kerala's IAS officer, K. Gopalakrishnan, has been appointed as the Managing Director of the Vyttila Mobility Hub Society. He will also hold the full additional charge of the post of Managing Director, Kerala State Construction Corporation Limited. This new appointment comes after his reinstatement in January 2025, following a controversial suspension in November 2024.
Why was Gopalakrishnan suspended, and what led to his reinstatement?
Gopalakrishnan's suspension stemmed from allegations regarding his involvement in forming communal WhatsApp groups, which the government believed were intended to sow division within the All India Services. Despite these concerns, an inquiry revealed no evidence of hacking as claimed by Gopalakrishnan. He was reinstated a month later, with no charges being pressed against him.
What other important postings were made by the Kerala government?
Alongside Gopalakrishnan's appointment, several other IAS officers were reassigned to new roles. Mohammed Hanish A.P.M., Principal Secretary of Industries, will now hold full additional charge in the Sports and Youth Affairs department. Sharmila Mary Joseph has been given the additional charge of the Women and Child Development department.
Other notable reassignments include K. Vasuki, who will now manage Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development, and Museum departments, and Mir Mohammed Ali, who will take charge as Special Secretary, Ports.
A number of officers have been given additional responsibilities. Abdul Nasar B. has been transferred as Special Secretary, Fisheries, with full additional charge of Minority Welfare. D. Sajith Babu has taken over as Special Secretary, Revenue (Devaswom). P.B. Nooh has been appointed Chairman of Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation, while Aswathy Srinivas has been posted as Managing Director of the Corporation.
