Thiruvananthapuram: As part of the cabinet reshuffle of the second Pinarayi government, Transport Minister Antony Raju and Ports Minister Ahmed Devarkovil have resigned from their posts. The duo submitted their resignation by visiting the chief minister at the Cliff House on Sunday. Their resignations will make way for K.B. Ganesh Kumar and Kadannappalli Ramachandran to the cabinet. The new ministers are expected to be sworn in on December 29. The LDF meeting today will take decision regarding the proceedings.

After the last Assembly elections, it was agreed upon that after two and a half years of the government in office, the two constituent parties of the LDF should hand over their posts to the other two constituent parties.

As per this agreement, Antony Raju of Janadhipathya Kerala Congress is supposed to hand over his post and transport department portfolio to Ganesh Kumar of Kerala Congress (B). 

Similarly, INL minister Ahmed Devarkovil will hand over his port, archaeology, and museum ministry to Kadannappalli of Congress (S). 

The current proceedings are on expected terms.

The outgoing Ministers expressed their satisfaction in getting an opportunity to serve the people under the Pinarayi government. Antony Raju said that he is “stepping down after disbursing the pending salaries of KSRTC employees.” 

With the reshuffle of the cabinet taking place, all constituent parties with one MLA with the exception of RJD will be represented in the government.
