Thiruvananthapuram: The BJP’s Kerala state leadership has clarified that the party is not involved in any social media campaigns against the recently released Malayalam film 'L2: Empuraan', starring Mohanlal and directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran.
BJP state general secretary Adv. P. Sudheer stated that the ongoing criticism of the film is personal and not the party’s official stance.
Addressing the media alongside party state secretary Adv. S. Suresh after the BJP state core committee meeting on Friday, Sudheer emphasized that the party has not initiated any campaign against the film.
"BJP has not started any campaign against the film. No movie affects the party. Cinema will go its own way, and the party will go its own way. It is the viewers who should judge what a film is. Cinema is not a matter that concerns us," Sudheer said in response to questions from the media.
He further added that individuals, as moviegoers, are free to express their opinions, but these do not reflect the party’s position. "Whatever appears on social media is personal opinion, not that of the organization," he clarified.
The BJP’s statement comes amid internal differences within the party over the film, with BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar stating he would watch Empuraan, while BJP vice president A. N. Radhakrishnan criticised it. Reports also suggest the RSS is not in favour of the film.
