Kannur: In a tragic incident, a four-and-a-half-year-old child died on Thursday while undergoing treatment after being bitten by a snake earlier this week.
The child, identified as Rithunandha from Elerithattu in Kasaragod district, was undergoing treatment at Pariyaram Medical College in Kannur. The incident occurred on Monday while she was playing with other children near her house.
According to reports, the child was first taken to a nearby health care centre. However, she was referred to the Medical College due to the unavailability of anti-venom at the local facility.
On the way to Pariyaram Medical College, the child was administered anti-venom at a hospital in Payyanur and was later admitted to emergency care at the medical college.
It is reported that the child was bitten by a cobra.
Further details regarding the circumstances of treatment and medical response are awaited.
