
Malappuram: The Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on Thursday suspended Assistant Commandant Naveen Kumar, a native of Haryana, for allegedly colluding with a senior customs official at Calicut International Airport to facilitate gold smuggling. He was taken into custody in connection with the incident the other day.
According to the police’ findings, Naveen and two other top customs officials assisted in carrying out gold smuggling via the Kozhikode airport at least 60 times in the last three months. The police had also found that Naveen had tipped off the smuggling gang and even handed them the duty chart of a customs officer. Following this, he was taken into custody and quizzed by the officials.

On Wednesday, a police team led by Kondotty DySP Moosa inspected Naveen’s rented house in Kulathoor to gather further evidence. It is learnt that the police obtained certain information regarding the smugglers and their financial transactions.
In addition, Malappuram district police chief Sujit Das had also arrived at the Kondotty police station to evaluate the progress of the investigation. Meanwhile, it is reported that apart from the superintendent rank officer, another senior customs official is also suspected to be involved in the smuggling.
