Mattannur: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the development of Kannur airport is expected to begin with the Hajj pilgrimage. He made the remark while speaking at the state-level inauguration of this year's Hajj camps at Kannur airport on Saturday.

“Not enough flights have been allowed in Kannur. Although we have been requesting the Centre's approval for foreign flights, no action has been taken. However, we will continue our efforts,” said the chief minister.

The event was chaired by Speaker AN Shamseer and attended by Minister Ahammad Devarkovil, MPs K Sudhakaran, P Santhoshkumar, Dr V Sivadasan, MLAs KK Shailaja, Kadannappalli Ramachandran and state hajj committee chairman C Muhammed Faizi among others.

Meanwhile, the first flight from Kerala carrying Hajj pilgrims to Jeddah will depart from Kannur and Karipur airports on June 4. The flights left Kannur and Karipur airports at 1.45 am and 4:25 am on June 4. The Hajj flights from Kochi International Airport will commence their journey at 11:30 am on July 7.
