New Delhi: CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Monday maintained that the case against KPCC chief K Sudhakaran is not politically motivated.

“Police probe is happening. A case is there. We (CPM) do not direct police to target a person like done by BJP and union government’s home ministry,” he said.

He was addressing the media after the party's politburo meeting.

Crime Branch wing of the police last week arrested Sudhakaran in a cheating case, in which the prime accused is controversial antique dealer Monson Mavunkal, and later released on bail. Senior party leaders of Congress in Kerala criticised Sudhakaran's arrest and termed it a "political conspiracy".

Commenting on the arrest, CPM state secretary MV Govindan last week refuted the narrative that the case against Sudhakaran is politically motivated. According to Govindan, there is no political colour in the case against Sudhakaran. “Sudhakaran is not booked over any political case. As we all know, it pertains to a grievous crime,” he said.

Yechury’s comment on the matter is also similar. Meanwhile, Yechury reacting to the question related to controversies surrounding cases in which SFI (CPM student organisation)-linked individuals are accused, said he is not aware of the details.
