Main accused Dr. Cyriac arrested six days after Jaslia Johnson’s hit-and-run death in Angamaly

Vagamon: Police have taken Dr Cyriac P George, the main accused in the hit-and-run case that killed student Jaslia Johnson, into custody. According to reports, Cyriac was arrested from a resort in Vagamon and is expected to be handed over to Angamaly police.
Earlier, the father of the accused, George Mathew of Athirampuzha, was also arrested for allegedly helping Cyriac evade arrest. The hit-and-run, which occurred several days ago, had sparked widespread criticism of the police for failing to apprehend the accused.
The accident took place on February 28, when Jaslia, a second-year BCom student at Angamaly Morning Star College, was returning home from her part-time job. She was struck by a car near Telk Junction, and the vehicle did not stop. Security footage later revealed the incident. Police traced the car to Thuravoor and identified Dr Cyriac, a house surgeon student at Chalakudy Medical College, as the driver. Authorities reported that a friend was present in the vehicle at the time of the accident and found no evidence of alcohol consumption.
Jaslia sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to the hospital, where she was declared brain-dead. With her family’s consent, her organs were donated, giving new life to four patients. Her liver was transplanted to a patient at Aluva Rajagiri Hospital, her kidneys went to patients at Kottayam Medical College and Amrita Hospital, and her corneas were donated to Angamaly Little Flower Hospital.
