Kochi: The District Sessions Court has rejected the bail pleas of Suhail Sajeev, the prime accused in the Kochi Mini Cooper crash case, and his friends, who are co-accused in the case.

The accident in Nedumbassery claimed three lives.

Police opposed the bail applications, citing an audio message sent by Joel, the third accused, who was also travelling in the car when the crash occurred.

In the recording, Joel allegedly says Suhail was driving at high speed under the influence of alcohol when the car hit a scooter, killing three people. He also claims that the occupants were terrified and fled the scene. According to the audio, Suhail allegedly told locals that his father would handle the matter.

Police further informed the court that they had evidence suggesting Suhail regularly drove at excessive speeds. They also said the accused had informed a friend about the deaths and that Suhail contacted his father first after the crash.

The prosecution argued that the accused should remain in custody for further investigation, as they were influential and evidence still needed to be collected. It also maintained that granting bail would send the wrong message to society.

The Angamaly Magistrate's Court had earlier rejected the bail pleas, prompting the accused to approach the Sessions Court.
