Kochi: The District Collector has sought a report from the Fort Kochi sub-collector on the death of Sajeevan, a fisherman who killed himself because of a land issue. District Collector Jafar Malik assured action on the matter and said that there has been no flaw found in the preliminary probe.

Sajeevan was given the notice to pay the fee in October. But, in December a new circular was out. Sajeevan then submitted a fresh application, said the district collector.

The collector added that about 30,000 applications are pending and about 150 new applications were coming in every day. All the staff of the Fort Kochi RDO were transferred after the discovery of irregularities. A special team arrived and settled all the files. They used to clear about 3000-4000 files per month. However, the Fort Kochi sub-collector said that he had not noticed Sajeevan coming to the office in the last few days.

“My father returned from the RTO office sadly. But he did not say what the matter was. They should have moved the files as soon as possible. People need to be treated fairly. No person should face this difficulty anymore,” said Sajeevan’s daughter.
