Palakkad: In a Facebook post, Soumya Sarin, wife of Dr. P. Sarin who is contesting the Palakkad assembly seat as a candidate for the CPM, has responded firmly to the cyberattacks and accusations after her husband's political shift from Congress to CPM. Soumya made it clear that she is not affiliated with any political party and sees people as individuals rather than as representatives of political ideologies.
Following her husband's switch from Congress to the CPM, Soumya reported facing personal attacks on social media. She recounted a recent incident at the Sharjah International Book Fair where an individual called out to her, saying, "Doctor, I follow you. I'm a Congress worker, so we are now enemies." Soumya, however, responded with a smile, saying, "I haven’t wronged you in any way, nor am I part of any party. So, you're not my enemy. I don’t have enemies."
In her post, Soumya emphasised that she does not align herself with any party's propaganda or work as a party worker. She also expressed her disdain for political animosity, stating that people should be judged based on their individual character, not political affiliations. She shared that she had been targeted by both Congress and CPM supporters on social media, but remained steadfast in her belief in treating others with respect.
“I'm a person who sees people as individuals. My connections and relationships are based on personal bonds, not party affiliations. I am not a spokesperson or worker for any political party. I don’t indulge in meaningless political arguments or accusations,” Soumya wrote. She went on to reject any claims that her remarks were politically motivated, clarifying that she had only responded to irrelevant and abusive comments.
Soumya also took to task those who misuse social media to harass individuals, pointing out that she had received several inappropriate and offensive messages. “I have received many personal messages, which have now been deleted. I could expose them, but I won’t. I don’t need to defend myself using these tactics,” she added.
In a bold statement, Soumya reaffirmed her stance: “I have no party. I have no hatred or ill will. If I can make you smile, I will smile back. That is my politics. This is who I am. I will not be intimidated by baseless accusations.”
Soumya's post highlighted her belief in the importance of seeing the good in people and rejecting the negativity that politics can bring. "I oppose the evil in individuals, not the party they belong to. I do not generalise or try to paint people with the same brush. I believe in the goodness of humanity," she wrote, stressing that her personal values and relationships take precedence over political affiliation.
The post has sparked a lot of discussion among her followers, with many supporting her call for a more compassionate approach to politics.
