Kochi: Several parts of Kerala were hit by heavy summer rain accompanied by strong winds on Thursday, with lightning and thunder reported alongside the showers.
Trees uprooted on NH-85 in Idukki, rain disrupts traffic
In Idukki, trees were uprooted along stretches of National Highway 85, blocking roads and disrupting traffic movement. Heavy rainfall was recorded from Neriamangalam to Valara. Parts of Ernakulam district also received intense rain, leading to traffic disruption on multiple routes.
In Valara, multiple locations reported fallen trees, which obstructed vehicular movement. In Thodupuzha town, no rainfall was recorded, though nearby areas experienced strong showers.
Wayanad witnesses hailstorm amid strong winds and rain
In Wayanad district’s Poothadi panchayat, strong winds, rain and hail were reported. Heavy rain began around 3 pm, affecting areas including Paplassery and Azhikode Nagar.
Meteorological warning for isolated heavy rain
The India Meteorological Department had earlier issued a warning of isolated heavy rain with thunderstorms in Idukki, Ernakulam and Wayanad, along with strong winds reaching speeds of up to 40 kmph. Rain is also likely in Kannur and Kasaragod districts, according to the advisory.
