Thiruvananthapuram: The government has ordered the closure of the ‘Happy Land’ amusement park in Thiruvananthapuram following an accident at the facility. Tourism Minister P.C. Vishnunadh said he had spoken to the District Collector to obtain preliminary details of the incident and had directed officials to ensure that all necessary facilities and assistance are provided to those undergoing treatment in hospital.

The District Administration has instructed the local self-government body, through the District Collector, to review the permission granted to the park by the Panchayat and to cancel its licence. The Minister clarified that the park would be permitted to reopen only after comprehensive safety inspections are completed.

Vishnunadh noted that a similar accident had occurred at the same park during the election period, resulting in the death of a child. He said that despite the earlier tragedy, the establishment had continued operations without complying with adequate safety standards, leading to another accident.

The government has now decided to revoke the licence issued by the local authority and carry out the necessary inspections. The Minister also stated that instructions had been issued to the department to conduct immediate safety checks at other tourist centres and amusement parks across the state.
