Kannur: A four-member gang of robbers stole nine sovereigns of gold from a house after attacking an elderly woman resident and tying her up. The incident took place at the residence of Dr Shakeer in Pariyaram, Kannur on Thursday night soon after the family left for Thiruvananthapuram. 

Shakeer’s 65-year-old relative and two children were present inside the house at the time of the theft. The thieves, who wore face masks, entered the house through the windows. They tied the elderly woman, covered her mouth with plaster and threatened to kill the children. 

It is learnt that the thieves had also covered three CCTV cameras installed inside the house ahead of the crime. A police probe is underway.
