Payyannur (Kannur): Following a break-in, 75 sovereigns of gold were stolen from the residence of C H Suhara, native of Perumba, Payyannur on Monday night.
The thieves entered the house by breaking the front door and ransacked two rooms, stealing the gold kept in two cupboards. A machete and steel rod, believed to have been used by the perpetrators, were abandoned.
At the time of the robbery, only two women were present in the house, both were asleep upstairs. It was only in the morning that they found the chaos downstairs.
Neighbours revealed that the stolen gold was intended for wedding purpose. The police have launched an investigation, focusing on CCTV footage from the area. Initial findings suggest the involvement of multiple persons in the robbery. Authorities plan to bring in fingerprint experts and a forensic team to gather further evidence from the scene.
