Kochi: A private school in Ernakulam, accused of covering up a bullying case after a child took his own life, has dismissed the complaint filed by the parent.
Earlier, a woman named Rajna P.M., accused Global Public school located at Thiruvaniyoor of attempting to cover up the relentless bullying and ragging her son endured on campus. She alleged that her son was subjected to extreme physical and verbal abuse at school and on the school bus, ultimately driving him to take his own life on January 15, 2025.
In an official statement, the school claimed that the accusations circulating on social media were "false propaganda" and asserted that they had implemented strict measures to prevent incidents of ragging and harassment.
The school administration further stated that they would fully cooperate with the ongoing police investigation but maintained that there was no evidence linking any incidents at the school to the student’s death.
The statement comes amid a growing outcry after Rajna PM filed a complaint against the school. She claimed that he had endured severe physical and verbal abuse from fellow students, including being humiliated in the school washroom. Shockingly, a chat screenshot surfaced allegedly showing some students celebrating his death with a racial slur.
The boy jumped from the 26th floor of his home in Thripunithura just an hour after returning from school. Following his death, Rajna approached the police, the Director General of Police (DGP), and the Chief Minister’s Office, demanding swift action. A First Information Report (FIR) was registered at the Hill Palace Police Station, and authorities have now launched a detailed probe into the allegations.
As part of the investigation, statements from school authorities and students will be recorded in the coming days. Meanwhile, Rajna has urged authorities to prevent any tampering with digital evidence, alleging that a social media page created by students to expose the bullying was deleted under pressure.
She has also submitted a petition to the Child Commission, seeking a probe into alleged harassment her son faced from the vice principal of his previous school. Authorities are yet to confirm whether bullying played a role in the student’s death.
