Thiruvananthapuram: A Class 11 student was allegedly assaulted by a group of Class 12 students following a dispute over the creation of a social media group at Government Higher Secondary School, Koduvazhannoor in Nagaroor, Thiruvananthapuram.

The injured student, a native of Kilimanoor, sustained injuries in the incident, which took place outside the school on Monday. He was given first aid before being sent home with his parents.

Initial reports said the clash stemmed from a disagreement after Class 11 students attempted to start an Instagram page, which was opposed by Class 12 students.

However, other reports suggest the dispute was triggered after the victim created a WhatsApp group shortly after joining the school. According to these accounts, a group of Class 12 students entered his classroom and demanded that he delete the group. Although he agreed to do so, they allegedly insisted on "settling" the matter physically.

Student allegedly taken from classroom and beaten

According to the reports, four to five Class 12 students allegedly took the Class 11 student from his classroom to a nearby field, where he was assaulted. They allegedly held him by the head and choked him, making it difficult for him to breathe.

A video purportedly showing the assault has surfaced and has reportedly been submitted to the authorities.

Earlier, Nagaroor police had said no complaint had been received in connection with the incident. However, subsequent reports indicate that the student's family has lodged a complaint, following which police have begun an investigation.

Police have reportedly questioned the school principal and other students as part of the inquiry.

School authorities are also expected to initiate disciplinary action against the students allegedly involved in the assault.

Some reports have alleged that the school attempted to distance itself from the incident by stating that it occurred outside the school premises. However, these reports claim the victim was taken directly from his classroom before being assaulted. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.
