Kannur: At least eight students of a college here were hospitalised on Saturday following a gas leak from a tanker lorry in Ramapuram.

The students, belonging to a nursing college, were hospitalised after developing uneasiness and breathing difficulty.

It is learned that the leak occurred while the hydrochloric acid in the tanker was being transferred to another tanker. The students are admitted to Pariyaram Medical College and Pazhayangadi Taluk Hospital. 

The incident happened while the tanker lorry was en route to Ernakulam from Karnataka. More details are awaited.
