Thiruvananthapuram: A probe report by the Health Department into the killing of Dr Vandana Das revealed lapses on the part of policemen and doctors on duty at Kottarakkara taluk hospital.
The report prepared by Kollam Deputy DMO Sajan Mathew mentioned lapses on the part of two doctors and police officials on duty at Kottarakkara hospital when the young house surgeon Vandana was stabbed to death while nursing the wound of the accused, Sandeep.

On the day of the incident at Kottarakkara hospital, two doctors and house surgeons were scheduled for duty. However, it was observed that these assigned doctors were absent when Vandana was giving medical assistance to Sandeep. The absence of the doctors indicated a lapse in their responsibilities. Besides, the policemen on duty at the hospital also failed to promptly respond to the situation. It was noted that the policemen left the room when the accused initiated an attack on the staff. This failure to take timely action contributed to the escalation of the situation, the report pointed out.
The report also recommends fielding ex-servicemen at hospitals. Meanwhile, the Crime Branch is continuing the probe into the incident.
