Kerala Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) has rolled out the Download Your Driving Licence (DYDL) system, enabling applicants who pass their driving tests to access their driving licences digitally, starting November 1.

This new initiative allows users to download their driving licences into the DigiLocker app or print them on PVC cards at designated outlets. Enforcement officers will accept digital driving licences during inspections, eliminating the need for physical copies.

Many electric vehicles are already equipped with screen-based document display systems, which can also be used to showcase digital licences. The MVD encourages applicants to utilize the DigiLocker option, as it is recognized and accepted nationwide.

Previously, the backlog in distributing driving licence cards had been resolved, allowing for same-day printing and distribution. However, challenges persist regarding the issuance of vehicle registration certificates (RCs), with ongoing issues needing to be addressed.
