Kochi: The Cochin University Employees Union has decided to lodge a complaint with the Governor regarding the investigation report submitted by the sub-committee of the varsity Syndicate on the stampede deaths related to an event at the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) campus in November. The union termed the findings of the report highlighting the organizer's lapses as bizarre and maintained that they were aimed at shielding numerous individuals. Furthermore, they've called for a judicial inquiry.

They claimed that there has been no enquiry on the conduct of the Director of Youth Welfare. According to the union, no one ever asked the sub-committee to delve into financial transactions. The union's criticism revolves around the apparent protection of the program convener, with no mention or investigation into the person's role. Moreover, the report allegedly fails to address the question of whether CUSAT's comprehensive security system was utilized during the event. Many students are implicated, and the union alleges the report primarily focuses on financial matters, neglecting other crucial aspects.

The union deems this report unfit for consideration and strongly urges a judicial inquiry. It has decided to approach the Governor over the matter.

Regarding the CUSAT tragedy, there are currently three ongoing investigations. One is conducted by a sub-committee appointed by the Syndicate, while the Education Department and the police are leading the other two. The development comes as the sub-committee's report was unveiled and discussed in the syndicate meeting.

Four people were killed and 60 injured in the stampede that took place before renowned singer Nikita Gandhi was to perform at a musical festival in the open-air auditorium of CUSAT.
