Thiruvananthapuram: Taking a cue from the strong stance taken by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the CPM state secretariat has decided not to conduct any party-level investigation against the Chief Minister’s political secretary, P. Sasi. The state secretariat is said to have evaluated the political situation in connection with the ongoing controversy surrounding P. Sasi and ADGP M.R. Ajith Kumar, maintaining that the circumstances do not warrant a detailed investigation, and there is no need to remove either Sasi or Ajith Kumar from their respective positions. The party assessed that Sasi has been fulfilling his role as political secretary with utmost commitment and responsibility.

A detailed discussion was reportedly held regarding the allegations made by MLA P.V. Anvar against Sasi and Ajith Kumar during the recent state secretariat meeting in Thiruvananthapuram. According to sources within the CPM, the party aligns with the Chief Minister’s view that there is no need to act hastily regarding the controversy. The Chief Minister had stated last week that P. Sasi is a state committee member and that his performance as political secretary is exemplary. He also mentioned in a press conference that it is the party that entrusted this responsibility to Sasi and that the allegations against him would be dismissed with contempt.

Pinarayi Vijayan had clarified that there is no need to remove Ajith Kumar from his post. “Nobody should have the misconception that persons who occupy responsible positions would be removed simply because some individuals raise allegations against them,” he said. “Steps will be initiated only if there is something against these two individuals in the police report.”

Anvar had alleged that ADGP Ajith Kumar was involved in tree felling, gold smuggling, and acquiring wealth disproportionate to his income. He also claimed that the ADGP had played a role in disrupting the 'Pooram'. In his initial attacks, Anvar accused Sasi of failing to fulfill his role as political secretary. Later, he intensified his criticism, alleging that Sasi has a special interest in gold smuggling. Anvar denounced the Chief Minister’s assertion that Sasi has been performing well in his role as political secretary.
