Thiruvananthapuram: To tide over the setback suffered in the election, the government has to function with a double engine in the remaining years in office, said CPM. State secretariat has taken stock of the post-result scenario and has decided to intensify the activities to spread the achievements of the government to the people.
LDF will have to face two more elections while the government is in power. If the government wants to continue in power, the party has to win back the confidence of the people by strengthening activities of the government, secretariat analysed. There was considerable erosion of votes in the party strongholds. What is more worrying is the fact that the party was pushed to third position in 11 assembly constituencies where the party has sitting MLAs.
To overcome this setback, the party has to work overtime to win back the trust of the people and the functioning of the government would prove instrumental in achieving this, secretariat opined.
CPM and LDF could overcome the heavy defeat suffered in the 2019 LS election through well coordinated efforts of the government and party. Since the situation looks very much similar, the party and government need to buckle up their activities to come up with an action plan at the government level and take it to the people through a combined effort of party and front.
As per the secretariat, the campaign demanding correction from the part of the government and party is a political tool used by the opposition in the wake of the election defeat. The question of correction doesn’t arise as the party had not committed any mistakes. Instead, the party and government need to win back the trust of the people. As part of achieving this, the activities of all departments should be monitored under the supervision of Chief Minister.
More steps will be taken in the coming days after analysing the votes polled in the district level. A five day meeting of the leaders would be held from June 16 to have a detailed discussion regarding the steps to be taken.
