Kozhikode: The seminar opposing union government's move to implement uniform civil code, organised by CPM, will be held in Kozhikode on Saturday. The seminar is scheduled to take place at the Swapna Nagari Trade Center (near the Sarovaram Biopark) at 4 pm.

Sitaram Yechury, general secretary of the CPM, will inaugurate the event. Leaders from various political, religious organisations and Christian church representatives will be in attendance.

The seminar attracted attention with CPM inviting the Indian Union Muslim League and the Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama. Though the Muslim League decided to reject the invitation, Samastha will attend the event. It will also see participation from All India Sunni Jamiyyathul Ulama and Kerala Nadvathul Mujahideen, among others.

Another interesting participant in Santhosh Arayakandi, one of the state general secretaries of BDJS, an NDA constituent.

EK Vijayan MLA, a state council member of the CPI, will participate in the seminar representing the second largest party in LDF. Top leaders have said that the national party meeting is underway on the day. It is also reported that CPI is disgruntled with the CPM for organising the seminar as an event of the party and not of the LDF.

In addition to Yechury, CPM state secretary MV Govindan, MP Elamaram Kareem, LJD state president MV Shreyams Kumar, MP Jose K Mani (Kerala Congress), Ministers PA Mohammed Riyas, AK Saseendran (NCP), Ahmed Devarkovil (INL), and others will participate in the seminar.
