Kozhikode: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has received an invitation to participate in a seminar organised by the Muslim Coordination Committee on the Uniform Civil Code. The party has accepted the invitation.

The Indian Union Muslim League is the major constituent of the committee. It has invited all religious organisations, including Jamaat-e-Islami. PMA Salam, the state general secretary of the Muslim League, emphasised that the event was not organised by political parties.

It is worth mentioning that earlier, the CPM invited the Muslim League to a seminar concerning the UCC, but the latter declined. The decision was made in protest against the exclusion of other constituent parties of the United Democratic Front (UDF), including the Indian National Congress, from the event held in Kozhikode. The invitation triggered a political row in Kerala. Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama, however, attended the programme.

Earlier, Congress had said that it would not engage the ruling party in protests organised against Uniform Civil Code.

Muslim Coordination Committee had protested against the LDF government on various issues, including the decision to hand over Waqf Board recruitment to PSC. However, Samastha, which is historically close to the League, chose to stay away from some of them.
