Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed condolence on the demise of renowned artist KM Vasudevan Namboothiri. 

Namboothiri was a gifted artist known for his unique style of narrative painting. His artistic technique beautifully captured the essence of characters from various literary works, leaving a lasting impression on readers' mind. We remember such countless characters from Malayalam literature through his portraits, CM said in his condolence message.

Namboothiri was a versatile artist, excelling in multiple disciplines such as drawing, painting, sculpting, and art direction, noted Pinarayi. His demise is an irreplaceable loss to the art world, CM added. 

Artist Namboothiri (98) died on Friday at 12.10 am at Kottakkal Aster Mims hospital, Malappuram. His body will be kept for public homage at his house in Naduvattom till 12 pm and later at Lalithakala Akademi, Thrissur. Cremation is at 5 pm on Friday at his ancestral house in Naduvattom.

Namboothiri was honoured with the prestigious Raja Ravi Varma Award, state film award for art director for the film "Utharayanam" and the state children's literature award, among others. His collection of paintings depicting Kathakali artists garnered admiration and praise. He also penned an autobiographical book titled "Rekhakal." He had served as the chairman of the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi.
