Kerala government has officially withdrawn from the PM SHRI scheme, sending a letter to the Centre to cancel the agreement following CPI objections.

The Kerala government has decided not to participate in the PM SHRI (Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India) scheme and has sent a formal letter to the Union Government requesting the cancellation of the agreement (MoU).
The decision follows objections raised by the Communist Party of India (CPI). According to the letter sent to the Centre, the matter had been studied by a ministerial subcommittee before finalising the withdrawal.
The state’s Education Minister V Sivankutty had informed the Union government of Kerala’s decision to revoke the MoU. This was communicated during a meeting in Delhi with the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, where the state’s position on the scheme was formally conveyed.
Earlier, CPI had expressed displeasure over the delay in sending the withdrawal letter to the Centre. Minister Sivankutty had responded, assuring that the letter would be sent after receiving legal advice, which has now been done. Subsequently, the Kerala government has formally confirmed that it will not participate in the PM SHRI scheme.
