Kochi: Kerala businessman Boby Chemmanur left the jail premises around 9:30 am today by car. He had been charged with a sexual harassment complaint filed by Malayalam actress Honey Rose.

Speaking to the media upon his release, Boby explained, "I stayed behind to help fellow prisoners – around 26 people – who had no money or means to get out even after being granted bail, as they couldn't pay the Rs 5000 or Rs 10000 required for their release. I stayed for one more day to hear their concerns, that's all. It is not contempt of court." He also said that the order could not be delivered on Tuesday due to a traffic block, which is why he stayed behind.

Boby decided to stay in jail despite being granted bail by the Kerala High Court on Tuesday. He had previously informed his legal team of his intention to remain incarcerated as a form of protest, expressing solidarity with prisoners who are unable to secure their release due to technicalities, even after being granted bail.

His choice had left his supporters, who had gathered outside the jail in anticipation of his release, disheartened. Both men and women were waiting for him, only to learn from his lawyers that Boby would not be leaving.
