Thiruvananthapuram: Police have approached the court seeking further investigation into the 2015 assembly ruckus case. The police's apparent tactical move comes when the trial in the case is about to begin. The move also comes after the police completed the probe and submitted a charge sheet to the court.

A petition has been filed in the Thiruvananthapuram CJM court, stating that there are numerous facts yet to be scrutinised. No further details pertaining to the petition are available at the moment. 

Approaching the court seeking further investigation into cases in which charge sheets have been filed is rare. Interestingly, in this instance, it is the police themselves who are seeking further probe.

There are six accused in the case, including CPM's V Sivankutty, K.T Jaleel, and E.P Jayarajan. If the trial progress, it might pose a challenge to Sivankutty. Former Left front MLAs E.S Bijimol and Geetha Gopi have also filed a petition in the same court, demanding a further probe into the incident. 

On March 13, 2015, a scuffle broke out in the assembly as the opposition attempted to stop the then Finance Minister K.M Mani from presenting the budget. The protest was due to K.M Mani’s alleged involvement in the bar bribery case. The police filed a complaint indicating the damages caused to the assembly during the ruckus.
