Tuvvur: Karuvarakundu police have arrested Kalarikkal Madhusudanan (52), a resident of Akkarakalam, for trespassing and assaulting PP Wilson, chairman of the anti-liquor committee, along with his wife and children at their residence in Kottakkunnu.

According to the police, Madhusudanan was deceived by someone into committing this crime, by falsely informing that he would find liquor at Wilson's home. Upon arriving on his two-wheeler, Madhusudanan entered the victim's home and, in a fit of rage over not receiving alcohol, physically assaulted Wilson and his family. He destroyed the window panes and electronic equipment.

The incident took place on Saturday night after Wilson returned home from the protest. Wilson suffered a fractured leg, wife and children were also taken to the hospital after the incident.

The suspect was apprehended by a police team headed by Subindu. The incident occurred in the aftermath of a 44-day-long protest aimed at closing down a toddy shop in the area, disrupting the distribution of alcohol. The protest was initiated when local residents found that a building, approved by the panchayat for sheep farming, was being unlawfully used for the sale of liquor.

All parties are actively protesting against this. Protests will be carried out night long. The committee has also planned to intensify the protest after their chairman’s assault.
