Muvattupuzha, Ernakulam: A Class V student has written to the Kerala Chief Minister VD Satheesan urging him to stop the opening of a toddy shop in Marady panchayath’s fifth ward, where local residents have been protesting against the proposed outlet.

The letter was written by Evania Maria Sajesh, a student of Nirmala Higher Secondary School, Muvattupuzha, as the agitation led by the local people’s action committee continues.

In her letter, Evania points out that the proposed toddy shop is to be opened in an area where more than 50 children regularly play.

"For the past several days, our parents and local residents have been protesting against this toddy shop. Since we had no classes yesterday, we also went to the protest venue. There was a major confrontation between the police, the people associated with the toddy shop, and the local residents. We were all very frightened,” she said.

She sought the Chief Minister’s intervention to relocate the toddy shop.

“Sir, I humbly request you to take steps to relocate the toddy shop from here. I believe only you can help us, and that is why I am writing this letter. I sincerely hope you will find a solution to this issue," she wrote.
