Thiruvananthapuram: A clean chit was issued to Thiruvananthapuram Mayor Arya Rajendran by the police over the controversial altercation between her and a KSRTC driver in the middle of the road. While a case was filed against the driver, Yadhu, based on the Mayor's complaint alleging that he showed obscene gestures against her and her sister-in-law, the police have not registered any case against the Mayor on his complaint.
Emphasizing that the initial case was filed by the Mayor, the police asserted that the driver's case is merely a defensive move against it. Despite the offense of stopping the KSRTC bus and disembarking passengers, the KSRTC has not filed a complaint in this regard, and consequently, the police have refrained from registering a case against her.
The police highlighted that the Mayor's actions were intended to prevent a crime. Yadhu, a temporary employee of the KSRTC, was suspended due to the dispute with the Mayor, prompting a section of employees' organizations to stage a strike on Monday.
The controversial incident unfolded around 10:00 pm on Saturday at Palayam here. The issue began when the KSRTC bus driven by Yadhu failed to give side (for overtaking) to the vehicle carrying the Mayor. The car then obstructed the KSRTC bus and sparked a confrontation with the driver. Mayor’s husband and MLA Sachin Dev was also present in the vehicle during the altercation. Video footage and CCTV recordings of the incident have since been released.
