Kanyakumari: The wild tusker Arikomban is yet to regain its full health days after Tamil Nadu Forest Department tranquilised and translocated the elephant to the Upper Kodayar area of Muthukuzhi forest from Cumbum.
After spending some time in the vicinity of Kodayar dam, the wild tusker crossed to Kanyakumari Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday. The officials are closely monitoring the movement of the elephant.
According to forest officials, Arikomban is yet to regain health, as indicated by the movement of tusker in recent days. Back in Chinnakanal, Idukki, Arikomban used to travel 15-20 km per day.
However, this has come down drastically in recent weeks, especially after the officials used heavy doses of tranquiliser to move the elephant from Cumbum to Mundanthurai tiger reserve, located 250 kilometres away.
At the same time, Forest Officials have confirmed that it is unlikely that Arikomban would enter a human settlement. However, the officials have taken measures to ensure that wild tusker does not roam into the human settlements in the Kanyakumari or Ponmudi forest region in Kerala.
