Thiruvananthapuram: Senior Congress leader VM Sudheeran on Thursday stated that the construction of the Ram Temple, following the demolition of the Babri Masjid, is a testament to the BJP's clear agenda. He emphasized that any invitation extended to the Congress for the temple's inauguration ceremony should be declined, as the party firmly opposes the BJP's divisive tactics. He highlighted that the principles of Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi, which champion secularism, stand as the strongest counter to the BJP's extreme Hindutva strategies aimed at creating caste-based divisions among people.

According to Sudheeran, it's not just the Congress but any political party embracing democratic secular values should abstain from participating in the inauguration of the Ram Temple. He believes the temple's construction only serves to fuel extreme communal attitudes associated with Hindutva.

Furthermore, he expressed concern over the BJP's suppression of dissent in Parliament, indicating that any opposition or critique against the BJP or entities like Adani could result in the expulsion of members. He noted that over 100 opposition MPs were undemocratically expelled, leading to the passage of laws in a manner that undermines democratic processes.

Sudheeran warned that India is witnessing the establishment of a totalitarian rule that threatens democracy and secularism. In such a situation, he argued that a robust second freedom struggle has become imperative for the country. He asserted that the Indian National Congress stands as the only political force capable of spearheading this movement.
