Palakkad, Kerala: Tragedy struck near Kadamkode canal bridge on the Palakkad-Chittoor road late Saturday night when a car lost control and overturned into a paddy field, killing three young men. Police said the accident occurred around 11 pm.
Six friends were travelling from Chittoor to Palakkad when the car first hit a milestone and then a tree before tumbling into the field. Initial reports suggest the driver may have swerved to avoid a wild boar.
The deceased have been named as Rohan Ranjith (24), Rohan Santosh (22), and Sanoosh Shantakumar (19). The three injured—Adithyan (23), Rishi (24), and Jithin (21)—were admitted to the district hospital with serious injuries.
All six friends study or work at different places. Police said the group had a weekend tradition of travelling together to Palakkad. They usually meet during holidays and go on night rides.
Accident specifics
Police reported the car, travelling at high speed, hit a milestone and a nearby tree before rolling into the paddy field. The vehicle was completely damaged on impact. Locals, fire services, and police personnel rescued the victims and survivors from the wreckage.
