Delhi: In a dramatic protest at the India AI Impact Summit 2026, workers of the Indian Youth Congress staged a shirtless demonstration and raised anti-Modi slogans, expressing dissent amid controversies surrounding the global AI event.

The development comes amid controversies surrounding the event, including the recent order for Galgotias University to vacate its pavilion at the AI Summit at Bharat Mandapam after it was revealed that the university had showcased a made-in-China robot as its own innovation.

According to the Delhi Police, four to five people have been detained. The officials are checking whether they entered with a pass or a QR code.

The summit, the first global AI gathering hosted in the Global South, brought together policymakers, industry leaders, academics, and civil society representatives to deliberate on responsible AI governance and inclusive technological advancement.

Last day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the summit and outlined India’s MANAV Vision for AI, emphasising the principles of ethical and accountable use of artificial intelligence.

"M - Moral and Ethical Systems: AI must be based on ethical guidelines, A - Accountable Governance: Transparent rules and robust oversight, N - National Sovereignty: Data belongs to its rightful owner, A - Accessible and Inclusive: AI must not be a monopoly, but a multiplier, V - Valid and Legitimate: AI must be lawful and verifiable," PM Modi said.

The Prime Minister asserted that India’s MANAV Vision will become a crucial link for humanity’s welfare in the AI-driven world of the 21st century.

Addressing the Leaders Plenary Session later, he stressed that the summit will help shape a human-centric, sensitive global ecosystem. "AI must be accessible to all, with Global South priorities at the centre of governance," he said.

"Ethics in AI must be unlimited; profit must align with purpose," PM Modi added. He outlined three key suggestions for ethical use of AI: a trusted global data framework, transparent 'glass box' safety rules, and embedding human values in AI. He concluded by saying that AI is a shared resource for the welfare of humanity.
