Kannur: Veena George was discharged early Friday from Kannur Government Medical College Hospital and will be shifted to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College for further treatment after being allegedly injured during the Youth Congress protest.

She left Pariyaram Medical College around 4 am.

The minister was admitted following a black-flag protest by Kerala Students Union activists on Wednesday. She was initially taken to Kannur District Hospital before being shifted to the medical college.

A 13-member medical board said she is undergoing treatment in the ICU for severe radicular pain caused by pressure on cervical nerve roots in her neck. The board clarified that no emergency surgery is required at present, but continuous monitoring is necessary.

In a related development, police registered a case against Chintha Jerome and 55 others for allegedly raising provocative slogans during a protest over the minister’s injuries. The march was organised by Democratic Youth Federation of India from Pallimukku to Vendaramukku on Wednesday night.

According to the FIR, the protesters allegedly raised slogans containing threats to life, disrupted traffic, and destroyed Congress flex boards. The case was registered on a complaint filed by a Congress leader, and police said efforts are on to identify all those who participated in the protest.
