Agra: The water level of the Yamuna River in Agra has risen immensely, surpassing the danger mark and reaching the walls of the Taj Mahal, officials reported on Sunday. The rising levels have caused flooding in some homes along the riverbank. This increase follows heavy rainfall in the lower Himalayan region, which includes parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Local historian Raj Kishore Raje confirmed that the current water level is comparable to the situation in 2023, with the Yamuna reaching the Taj Mahal's wall as it did then. However, he assured that the monument remains undamaged due to its construction, which is designed to withstand such water levels. The Taj Mahal, a Mughal-era heritage site, is located on the banks of the river Yamuna.

In response to the flood threat, the district administration has put several measures in place, including setting up a control room and continuous monitoring of the situation to manage the flood risks effectively. Authorities are prepared to coordinate relief efforts if necessary to protect the residents and safeguard the monument.
