Imphal: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Friday said that Hindu society is essential for the world’s survival, declaring that “without Hindus, the world will cease to exist.”

Addressing a gathering during his visit to Manipur, Bhagwat said Hindu society was immortal and had endured through time while great ancient civilisations had vanished.

“Every nation of the world has seen all kinds of situations. Yunaan (Greece), Misr (Egypt) and Roma, all civilisations perished from the face of the earth. There is something in our civilisation that we are still here,” Bhagwat said.

He asserted that the global relevance of Hindu civilisation comes from India’s cultural continuity and its ability to withstand challenges across millennia.

Earlier this week in Assam, Bhagwat expanded on the Sangh’s vision, emphasising that Hindu identity transcends religion and is rooted in devotion to the nation and cultural values. He clarified that Hindu is not a term limited to a particular mode of worship.

“Those who carry forward the devotion to the motherland, the pride of our ancestors and the legacy of our culture are all Hindus. Hinduism should not be taken in religious connotations. Hinduism and Hindu culture are not food and worship. It is inclusive,” he said while addressing an eminent gathering of intellectuals, scholars, editors, writers, and entrepreneurs as part of the RSS centenary celebrations.

“It can take in many more people. If Muslims and Christians, even without giving up their worship, customs and traditions, worship this country, follow Indian culture, and take pride in Indian ancestors, then they are Hindus…” he added.

Bhagwat further asserted that India does not require an official declaration to be a Hindu Rashtra, stating that “Bharat and Hindu are synonymous,” and that the country’s civilizational ethos already reflects this identity.
