Actor-turned-politician and TVK chief Vijay on Saturday briefly addressed issues surrounding his personal life while speaking at his party’s International Women’s Day celebrations in Mamallapuram, urging supporters not to be affected by the controversy.

Speaking at the event, Vijay said recent developments had caused concern among his supporters but assured them he would deal with the matter himself.

What did Vijay say?

“Recently, there have been a few problems happening. I see that you are getting hurt while fighting for it. I’m getting hurt seeing you guys getting hurt. I’ll take care of the problems. Don’t get hurt. Nothing to worry about,” he said.

During the programme, Vijay also announced several welfare promises for women ahead of the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly election. These included a monthly financial assistance of ₹2,500 for women, a sovereign of gold along with a silk saree as a wedding gift for young women, and six free LPG cylinders for all families if his party is voted to power, according to ANI.

The remarks come amid reports of legal proceedings involving Vijay and his wife Sangeeta. According to court documents, Sangeeta filed a petition earlier this year before the District Court in Chengalpattu seeking dissolution of their marriage.

Along with the divorce petition, she has sought an interim order allowing her to continue residing at the couple’s matrimonial home on Casuarina Drive in Chennai until the case reaches final disposal. The petition states that she is a British citizen and does not currently have another residence in India.

In the filing, Sangeeta also accused Vijay of infidelity, alleging that he had been involved in an “adulterous relationship” with a female actor. The matter is currently before the court.
