Chennai: Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, who secured victory in two Assembly constituencies in the April 2026 elections, has resigned from the Tiruchirappalli East seat while choosing to retain Perambur, according to official updates.
Vijay, who contested and won from both constituencies during the polls, was required to vacate one seat in line with electoral rules that prevent a legislator from holding two Assembly positions simultaneously. Following the required process, he has formally stepped down from Tiruchirappalli East.
His decision to retain Perambur means he will continue to represent that constituency in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly as he assumes responsibilities as Chief Minister.
